Desert Birthdays

I mentioned that John and his mom have a birthday that is one day apart, well he also shares a one day birthday difference with our buddy Emily. This year, us being in LA together we got to share the celebrations. We rented a top secret house in the desert for the weekend and had some much needed fun and giggles. Seriously you guys, I got an ab workout just from laughing all weekend. It was so much fun! Here are a few pictures from our trip and a silly little video.

Peanut took the roadtrip like a boss. She snuggled up and fell right asleep. I guess its easier to relax when there are people that act as buffers so your tiny ass doesn’t get thrown from left to right on the slippery back seat.

Once we arrived in town we stopped at Walmart for some necessities and some definitely not necessities. We don’t really come in contact with too many Walmarts and when we do its pretty easy to get “walmart brain”. We got all loopy and giddy and irrational and bought all kinds of crap. Lets just say that John left wearing a newly purchased Raiders jersey and carrying two Red Rider BBguns out the door along with way too many snacks.

Evidence of the non stop laughter at dinner. And our front yard.

Yay, happy birthday John and Em, I love you both very much and it was so much fun!

En Pointe!

My friend Emily shared this video and I love it for a a few reasons.

One: It reminds me that I need to look into finding a studio and dancing again now that I have a full time job & can afford to do so.

Two: I love the approach to this film. Every dancer has their own  technique for preparing their pointe shoes and I love how they chose to neatly lay out all of the tools and materials before introducing each dancer. Super cool.

Bill Cunningham

We finally sat down and watched the film “Bill Cunningham New York” tonight. It was really enjoyable. He’s super adorable and a sweet. I can’t believe his zest for life. He’s like, what, 84? He is still riding his bike around New York everyday all day, photographing people and documenting street fashions and trends and just has such a joy for life and for what he is doing. Super interesting character.

If you don’t know about the film, here is a trailer. I recommend it.

Ease into your week

This is insane and amazing. If you have seen it (it’s been circulating) watch it again, if you haven’t prepare to enjoy yourself. I think its insanely creative and impressive. Five people (known as Walk Off the Earth) cover Goyte’s “Somebody that I used to Know” using one instrument, played at the same time by all five people, coming up with really in-genius ways to make new sounds to fill out the whole song, they also take turns singing different parts of the song. It’s beautiful.
