Outfit Of The Day

Happy almost Friday everyone! What, that counts right? I can feel it, it’s coming, it’s just around the corner.

Hope everyone gets to do something fun for Mothers Day, if not for yourself than for your mother or someone elses mother!

Personally my mother lives in the Bay Area so I won’t see her. Luckily I will get to see her when we head that way next weekend for the baby shower her and my sister in laws are throwing for us!

This weekend however we will be spending the weekend with John’s mom. She lives in Carpinteria (a small beach town near Santa Barbara – we were married in the backyard!) I’m looking forward to the visit. We always have fun together and the weather is forecast to be pretty nice. Even though it’s just a short drive away from us, it feels like a little mini get away!  I’m gonna pack my pregnant lady bathing suit and hope that we will get a little beach time in as well (since she is less than a block away!)

Speaking of Mother’s Day. My own mother sent me the cutest card ever. I mean the fact that she thought to send me my first Mother’s Day card was sweet enough. If you follow my on instagram you may have seen photos. The card features a 50′s full skirted lady on the front. Her skirt is real fabric. When you open the card you find that the skirt is actually a keepsake handkerchief. How cute is that!?

It’s kind of weird to think of this as my first Mother’s Day. And while I don’t intend to be celebrated it is a sweet thought that people would tell me Happy Mother’s Day. It also puts a whole new perspective on the holiday and my own Mother. Anyhow, I’m a little early on all this Mother’s Day talk, but the weekend is on my mind!

Outfit

Blazer: Target ($29.99) I love the zipper detail on this jacket. It actually does zip off if I wanted to sport a crop jacket, but I’m not sure that’s a good look for a pregnant lady…maybe some other time. I also happened to be wearing stretch pants on my way to yoga when I tried this on and I felt like even in stretch pants it dressed it up and made it much more put together and I decided that was a good thing since I may be headed more and more in the direction of stretch pants all the time haha.

Satin/Sheer Stripe Top: A pre-pregnancy Old Navy item

Black Skinnies: Old Navy Maternity

Jewel Bow Necklace: J.Crew

Watch: Nixon (The Kensington) $175

Shoes: Converse All Stars (unbleached) ($45)
Its really just gonna be these or flip flops from here on out I think guys! My little feeties are really getting swollen in this last trimester. Its common given all the extra blood flow and the huge baby is getting in the way of that flow, so it is starting to pool at my feet and ankles. :( Tuesday night it was so bad that my once skinny toes all seemed to be touching each other and the skin felt like it was being stretched to the max. John got me a giant bowl of ice water and instructed me to submerge my feet in it. I figured this was some sort of sports trick and I had no alternative idea so I went with it. It hurt like hell at first. I mean ice water on your feet is not pleasant to begin with. Then it felt like the cold had shocked all the blood to go elsewhere and I started getting shooting pains up my calves like all the blood was panicking to exit the feet! But once I removed them from the ice they actually did feel better and the swelling went down. I’ve also started adding lemon to the insane amounts of water I drink lately because I hear that can help as well. I’ve already been propping my feet up at work but now I am also trying to wiggle and stretch them more as well.

PS I definitly had an ice cream sandwich treat at lunch and the baby is currently doing a happy dance.

Outfit Of The Day: Red Skinnies & A Side of Hormones

With less than 10 weeks left I may have to get creative to keep you inspired with my daily outfit posts. I’ve stopped shopping and things have stopped fitting (including shoes). There may be more stretch pants and flip flops in my future posts, but hopefully I can still keep it cute. I mean, we saw a girl last night while picking up dinner who was wearing sweat pants and John said “She’s given up. And shes not even pregnant.” So if the time comes that I wear my sweat pants out, at least I can play the pregnant card. But for now I will continue to fight them haha.

This week my hormones have me feeling totally overwhelmed and anxious. This is unfortunate since my husband struggles with anxiety on the daily. I am usually the calm force in our lives. Needless to say, I am doing nothing to help his anxiety and he’s having a hard time calming me down. The countdown to baby is getting smaller and smaller and I feel like I still don’t feel ready. Part of it is just the emotionally overwhelming and new idea that I will have to actually birth this thing (that’s enough on its own)! And part of it is a running list of things I want to get done before his arrival that I feel I never have time for. In addition, I think I have started nesting and the everyday messes around the house are starting to driving me bonkers. I feel like I can’t start on my list of things to do until the house is in order and it never feels in order.

Ugh. Hormones.

I’m going to have to do my best to remind myself what is important and to try to just breath and know that all that needs to get done will get done. And remember to thank and love my husband for putting up with days like today when I freak out about how he needed to scrub the sink out with bleach because I can’t do it and I asked him three times.

You can only take it one day at a time. And unfortunately some days are more filled with hormones than others. Sorry husband.

Outfit Of The Day: Nice…..Dress?

Oh my gosh you guys, this…top….used to be a dress!! How is that even possible? I mean. I know I got bigger, but I MUST have also shrunk the dress right? I cant wrap my head around it haha! I mean, you could barely call this a tunic! Shits a shirt.

None the less, I guess it still fits…..in some form!

Belt: Old Navy

Shorts: American Eagle (via TJ Maxx of course) Love the gold sequin pocket details (so fun). These are non maternity. They are just a bigger size so they sit below my belly.

Sweater: J.Crew (The Jackie cardigan)

Oh and here is the sad proof that this thing was once a dress! (and the awesome truth that I look bad ass on a tricycle)

Outfit Of The Day: Panama Hat

I always feel a little silly wearing a hat to work. I sit at a desk all day (as a designer) and it seems sort of weird. But the thing is I work 7 days a week so that leaves little other time for hats! John got me this panama hat last season and sadly I honestly don’t think I have had a chance to wear it until today! I always want to bring it on vacations or something but that’s always a challenge and as you can see from my Mexico photos I chose to bring my other sun hat, and bringing two was just not gonna happen. We are having some weird weather here in the LA area. Its forecast at low 90′s today and tomorrow with possible rain on Sunday. So I say it calls for a sun hat. Even if I only get my sun during my lunch break!

Outfit

Panama Hat: J.Crew

Chambray Shirt: Lucky Brand (Believe it or not I think I found this gem at Marshall’s and I seriously cant wear it enough! Even after 3 years!)

Skirt: This a pre-pregnancy skirt I found at Ross for $8. It is pretty short (in other words can be pulled up over the belly) and so it had never occurred to me to wear while pregnant until today. I pulled it down low below the belly and just for added sensibility I used a black belly band at the top. This helps make it feel more secure and also makes sure I don’t accidentally flash any tummy.

Sandals: These are old but I believe they were also from Ross at one point.

Orange Lipstick:  Revlon Creme Siren

Earrings: Kate Spade

Mexico: Part Four – Bathing Suits

A few people asked for some pregnant lady bathing suit advice so I wanted to share the suits I got and maybe recommend a few more. I decided to not buy a maternity suit because, well, because I’m thrifty damn it! I’ve never been one to spend $80-$100 on a swim suit and I definitely wasn’t going to start now, especially with such a short window for wear time! So I kept an eye out for bathing suits that had all the characteristics of a maternity suit, without the price tag. For me, this meant coverage. As much as I love and embrace my baby belly, I’m just not comfortable showing it off in the flesh for some reason. And to that point, if you can rock a bikini, then this post isn’t for you, because you can wear it all! I kept an eye out for ruching (a gathering of fabric down the sides) because I think its flattering and also seems to allow for a bit of extra room and stretch. I also looked for suits that had either a fabric overlay of a longer top (while still a once piece) or a tankini two piece with a long top to reach all the way down around the belly.

While I did try on and like a few at places like TJ Maxx or Marshalls or Ross the two suits I ended up with were both from Target. And yes I said two. They were cheap and I live in Southern California just a few blocks from the beach, so I figured what the heck.

The first suit is a once piece that Target actually calls a “one piece swim DRESS”, which I guess refers to that extra skirting fabric length that I liked. I loved the classic old Holywood shape that it had. Something else I love (and looked for in both suits) is that unlike a lot of one piece swimsuits both of these have some support or at least shape definition in the chest. I’ve never been a once piece kind of girl and when I think about one pieces I think about the type that swimmers wear that totally flatten you out. I loved that both of these suits flattered my girls and still made me feel fun and flirty…and if I’m being honest, my girls have never looked better, thank you hormones!! haha. So why not embrace them.

BlackSuit_1

Because this black suit is a once piece and because it is not maternity, I did have to do a bit of a wiggle to get into it haha and my guess is that it wont be too comfy at 9+ months but for now its perfect.BlackSuit_2 BlackSuit_3 BlackSuit_4

The second suit is a two piece “tankini” style. Meaning the top is cut like a tank top and covers your belly but it is still two pieces. This one is a bit easier to get into and equally as fun and flattering in my opinion. Also, the rounded hemline on this top was figure flattering around the belly and helped give me that few extra inches of fabric to keep my covered.

Outfit Of The Day

I think the “rocker” look is one of my faves. I always love it but I think its especially fun while pregnant. There is something kinda awesome about the juxtaposition of the sweet, maternal baby bump paired with leather and studs. I dunno, I just love it. It feels so unexpected.

Today I’m wearing that same Liz Lange Maternity dress that I picked up on clearance at Target very early in my pregnancy ($10). I love that I have been able to re-invent it several different ways. From dressy wedding wear, to casual, to rocker. But I guess that’s the joy of a little black dress. Every girl needs one, even a pregnant girl, okay, especially a pregnant girl!

Tracy said my belly was weird shaped, so I gave her the stink eye hahaMaternity Street Style via MyCornerView

Believe it or not these Converse are my most comfortable shoes lately. I know some people hate them since they provide zero arch support….or support at all but they are working for me. I bought Nike Free Runs thinking they would be my go to shoe in the third trimester when my back ached etc but they actually feel a bit narrow and constricting and when paired with a tight ankle sock my little swellies (swollen feet) just cry. The converse on the other hand feel wide and loose and comfy.Maternity Street Style via MyCornerView

Mexico: Part Three

I mentioned that where we stayed was about a one mile hike outside of the city of Sayulita, and one day we decided to make that hike and explore a little bit. Our hotel (or whatever you wanna call it) provided us with some very funny and mysterious directions that said things like “past the red wall you will see an old horse trail, surrounded on both sides by barbed wire, follow the trail to the top of the road and go right at the Y… etc. It was hot and I was pregnant but we made it just fine, cryptic directions and all.

Mexico via My Corner View

Somewhere along the dirt road between our hotel and town (near Playa de los muertos -appropriately named) was a cemetery which I found really pretty. Here’s just one shot of that:

Mexico via My Corner ViewSoon after, we arrived into town. It’s small and not unlike Puerto Vallarta. Shops consist of mostly cafes, taco stands/restaurants, a church, a small square and some trinket shops catered mostly to tourists. But it was fun to check it out and just get a change of scenery. We sat in the square for a bit (cooling off from our hike) and watched a few young boys play futbol as their father looked on and relaxed in the shade. As we got up to leave the father said to us “almost guys, almost” meaning that soon we would be watching our little boy play footie in the park.

We did a short lap around checking things out a bit, inhaling a few tacos and refreshing drinks and snapping a few photos before opting to grab a cab back to our hotel. Mexico: Part Two

These are by far my most favorite pictures we took while on our Babymoon. One night the sunset was amazing and weather was perfect and we were googly eyed in love so we set the timer on the camera and shot a series of photos like these:

I mean! Right? Pretty excited about these. And its kind of special that this was not part of a maternity shoot or anything it was just me and him, and our babe, on the beach, alone in Mexico- us against the world. ;)

Mexico: Part One

I have finally had a little time to go through our photos from Mexico and there are quite a lot of them! For that reason I will do several different posts, this first one being the longest. I will also include a separate post just about bathing suits for those of you that asked for that advice as well.

The place we chose to visit for our “Babymoon” was Sayulita Mexico. It’s a small town about 20 or 30 minutes outside of Puerto Vallarta. It used to be a bit more remote and just a little fishing town, but in years past it has become more popular, however it is still much more secluded and remote in comparison to Puerto Vallarta. The place we stayed was very slow and relaxing and about a one mile hike outside of the city of Sayulita.

We had our own little balcony patio with table where we could sit and enjoy the view of the ocean as we started our days or as we cooled off before heading to dinner each night.Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View

Every hour of every day here was beautiful and as much as we loved soaking up all the sun we could, watching the sun set each night was equally as magical. The air was still warm and we would usually schedule dinner around the sunset so we could watch it go down as we ate and then take a short stroll on the sand before heading back to our room.

Speaking of coffee, this was our morning ritual. Each day when we would wake up we brewed a pot of coffee and immediately headed out onto our balcony to read and sip as we started the day. It was so relaxing. No rushing to get anywhere or do anything. Just slowly taking in the day and the silence. I loved it so much I told John I wanted to try to bring a piece of that home. I know it won’t happen every weekend morning, with errands to run and dogs to walk and plans, but I want to remember how nice it was and on occasion just sit in the backyard and drink our coffee and read to start the day.Mexico via My Corner View

Thanks to our waiter for offering to take our picture! The entire staff here was amazing and super sweet and personal. I was flattered to find that several of them thought we were on our honeymoon (shotgun wedding?) because we appeared so happy and in love (after 12 years folks!) When seeing my big belly they each wanted to tell us about  their own families and how many children they had and their ages. One waiter proceeded to tell John how he asked his wife for a fourth child but she told him “the baby factory is CLOSED”, and he then went on to tell him that this was the best gift he would ever receive- and then I died.Mexico via My Corner View

This is hilarious. John directed me to “go stand over there in the jungle” and then I got doused by the sprinkler. Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View
