Outfit Of The Day

I think the “rocker” look is one of my faves. I always love it but I think its especially fun while pregnant. There is something kinda awesome about the juxtaposition of the sweet, maternal baby bump paired with leather and studs. I dunno, I just love it. It feels so unexpected.

Today I’m wearing that same Liz Lange Maternity dress that I picked up on clearance at Target very early in my pregnancy ($10). I love that I have been able to re-invent it several different ways. From dressy wedding wear, to casual, to rocker. But I guess that’s the joy of a little black dress. Every girl needs one, even a pregnant girl, okay, especially a pregnant girl!

Believe it or not these Converse are my most comfortable shoes lately. I know some people hate them since they provide zero arch support….or support at all but they are working for me. I bought Nike Free Runs thinking they would be my go to shoe in the third trimester when my back ached etc but they actually feel a bit narrow and constricting and when paired with a tight ankle sock my little swellies (swollen feet) just cry. The converse on the other hand feel wide and loose and comfy.Maternity Street Style via MyCornerView

Mexico: Part Three

I mentioned that where we stayed was about a one mile hike outside of the city of Sayulita, and one day we decided to make that hike and explore a little bit. Our hotel (or whatever you wanna call it) provided us with some very funny and mysterious directions that said things like “past the red wall you will see an old horse trail, surrounded on both sides by barbed wire, follow the trail to the top of the road and go right at the Y… etc. It was hot and I was pregnant but we made it just fine, cryptic directions and all.

Somewhere along the dirt road between our hotel and town (near Playa de los muertos -appropriately named) was a cemetery which I found really pretty. Here’s just one shot of that:

Mexico via My Corner ViewSoon after, we arrived into town. It’s small and not unlike Puerto Vallarta. Shops consist of mostly cafes, taco stands/restaurants, a church, a small square and some trinket shops catered mostly to tourists. But it was fun to check it out and just get a change of scenery. We sat in the square for a bit (cooling off from our hike) and watched a few young boys play futbol as their father looked on and relaxed in the shade. As we got up to leave the father said to us “almost guys, almost” meaning that soon we would be watching our little boy play footie in the park.

We did a short lap around checking things out a bit, inhaling a few tacos and refreshing drinks and snapping a few photos before opting to grab a cab back to our hotel. Mexico: Part Two

These are by far my most favorite pictures we took while on our Babymoon. One night the sunset was amazing and weather was perfect and we were googly eyed in love so we set the timer on the camera and shot a series of photos like these:

I mean! Right? Pretty excited about these. And its kind of special that this was not part of a maternity shoot or anything it was just me and him, and our babe, on the beach, alone in Mexico- us against the world. ;)

Mexico: Part One

I have finally had a little time to go through our photos from Mexico and there are quite a lot of them! For that reason I will do several different posts, this first one being the longest. I will also include a separate post just about bathing suits for those of you that asked for that advice as well.

The place we chose to visit for our “Babymoon” was Sayulita Mexico. It’s a small town about 20 or 30 minutes outside of Puerto Vallarta. It used to be a bit more remote and just a little fishing town, but in years past it has become more popular, however it is still much more secluded and remote in comparison to Puerto Vallarta. The place we stayed was very slow and relaxing and about a one mile hike outside of the city of Sayulita.

We had our own little balcony patio with table where we could sit and enjoy the view of the ocean as we started our days or as we cooled off before heading to dinner each night.Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View

Every hour of every day here was beautiful and as much as we loved soaking up all the sun we could, watching the sun set each night was equally as magical. The air was still warm and we would usually schedule dinner around the sunset so we could watch it go down as we ate and then take a short stroll on the sand before heading back to our room.

Speaking of coffee, this was our morning ritual. Each day when we would wake up we brewed a pot of coffee and immediately headed out onto our balcony to read and sip as we started the day. It was so relaxing. No rushing to get anywhere or do anything. Just slowly taking in the day and the silence. I loved it so much I told John I wanted to try to bring a piece of that home. I know it won’t happen every weekend morning, with errands to run and dogs to walk and plans, but I want to remember how nice it was and on occasion just sit in the backyard and drink our coffee and read to start the day.Mexico via My Corner View

Thanks to our waiter for offering to take our picture! The entire staff here was amazing and super sweet and personal. I was flattered to find that several of them thought we were on our honeymoon (shotgun wedding?) because we appeared so happy and in love (after 12 years folks!) When seeing my big belly they each wanted to tell us about  their own families and how many children they had and their ages. One waiter proceeded to tell John how he asked his wife for a fourth child but she told him “the baby factory is CLOSED”, and he then went on to tell him that this was the best gift he would ever receive- and then I died.Mexico via My Corner View

This is hilarious. John directed me to “go stand over there in the jungle” and then I got doused by the sprinkler. Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View Mexico via My Corner View

Outfit Of The Day

It pays to keep re-evaluating your closet as your belly changes. I have had this top since before the pregnancy. I loved it in the first trimester because it was loose and flowy and hid what very little belly I had. But then once I was able to share the news that I was pregnant, I was eager to show off the bump and this shirt didn’t really do that so it sat in my closet ignored for a few months. I decided to try it again and see if it still fit over my belly and I was pretty pleased with it.

Outfit Of The Day

This is nearly identical to an outfit I wore in my first trimester. However, there is NO way that tunic in the first trimester would still fit. Especially since it was J.Crew Crewcuts! Today’s chambray tunic is an Old Navy Maternity item that I bought very early in the pregnancy. When I first got it in the mail, it was huge (I on the other hand, was not yet). But now we are a match made in heaven. Two huge ladies….or something.

Maternity Street Style via MyCornerView Maternity Street Style via MyCornerView Maternity Street Style via MyCornerView

On the topic of huge: this baby is getting huge. I feel like he got bigger overnight, and I wouldn’t be surprised since he’s keeping me up tossing and turning and last night he had me up with unexpected nausea. He’s really decided to “lay it on me” in the last few months. But as John reminded me this morning, the rest of the pregnancy was pretty much a walk in the park, and he’s right. So it only seems fair to the other pregnant ladies of the world that I deal with a little bit of that pregnant lady drama. That also includes the fact that, I missed my wedding rings and decided to wear them today, only to be reminded an hour into the day why I have stopped wearing them – I think they are cutting off circulation.

On the upside of huge…this Old Navy belt is a pregnant lady god send. Consider it the maxi dress of belts. I love the idea of belting things to give a nicer silhouette as your shape begins to disappear and/or become all the more round. But I found that half way through the day the belt needed adjusting and was pretty uncomfortable. This belt however is 90% elastic (hallelujah!). I love that it has the leather detail in the front so it still looks nice but the back is allll stretch. I bought one in this beige color as well as a black one, but they also had some more colorful options. Do yourself a favor and pick one  (or two) up for $12.99.

This hairdo looks fancy, but let me tell you it is super easy! I like to call it wedding hair but its really a modified gibson roll. I’ve been meaning to do some sort of tutorial now for ages, because people always ask me about it. But alas, I have not. But essentially, the secret is: there is a dark elastic headband hiding in there (matches my hair more or less) and the hair is twisted in pieces round the headband.

Outfit

Tunic: Old Navy Maternity. I bought mine in the fall and while its not the same, here is another chambray maternity Old Navy tunic that’s pretty cute.
Cardigan: This was a hand me down from my sister in law but it’s an old Target cardigan
Leggings: Old Navy Maternity
Belt: Old Navy (some colors on sale for $10.50)
Boots: Reallllly old Steve Maddens….they still make them, but I cant bring myself to buy the same exact pair, but have yet to find a pair I love more.
Purse: Madewell
Earrings: Swarovski

Outfit Of The Day

These pants are a perfect example of something you are probably NOT going to find in maternity. I bought these the same day I bought the polka dot ankle jeans from yesterdays outfit and just like the polka dot ones they are not maternity, they are simply several sizes larger than my pre-pregnancy size. Hooray for funky pants!

I decided that if sizing up in non maternity shorts worked, it was worth a try on pants too.  Not sure why it had never occurred to me before. But for $19 at TJ Maxx it was worth a try, they would definitely be more affordable than most maternity jeans and there would be a lot more options, rather than just standard basic colors.  Admittedly the fit isn’t perfect because they are being forced below the belly, but they are comfortable and fun and if you ask me the fit is good enough and they are pretty cute.

Seriously, whats my deal with pattern mixing haha. Love the color combo here, so I went with it. I did feel a bit like the Hulk in this shirt though, like if I took one deep breath that one single button I managed to fasten would pop right off and take someones eye out! I’m starting to get the impression that the third trimester is definitely going to be my hardest, especially since the rest of my pregnancy has been such a breeze. I’m suddenly plagued with maaajor fatigue & lower backache but all in all I guess things are still pretty good.

A Super Saturday

John and I have been having quit the nice little weekend and I wanted to share some of yesterday with you. We woke up and decided to combine the dogs morning walk with a visit to the farmers market. It was beautiful here yesterday in Santa Monica and even early it was nice and warm. Usually on weekends we rush to get the dog out on her walk and John is usually anxious to get things going which means I usually leave the house in yoga pants and no makeup so it was nice to be able to quickly ready myself for the day before heading out. We took a nice long family stroll in the sunshine (taking a few photos along the way)

Once at the farmers market we each got a fresh baked pastry and a cup of coffee. Then Peeps and I posted up under a tree and waited for John to grab some brunch ingredients (puppies are not allowed in the farmers market).

Super Saturday - My Corner View

This photo makes my dress look scandelously short but I think it’s just that half of it is obscured by my giant belly. haha.

Speaking of my giant belly it really is quit charming how sweet total strangers can be about a pregnancy! I cant believe how many sweet people chatted with us and congratulated us on the baby. When we got our coffee the clerk asked when we were due and high fived John when we told him it was a boy. Walking home, a tough guy on a bicycle yelled “Congratulations guys!” as he passed and a woman we cross who was also walking her dog asked if this was our first, told us we were cute and said “enjoy it, it goes soo fast”. It’s really amazing how even total strangers get excited about the birth of a baby and I love how it can bring people together.

When we got back to the house John re-created a favorite dish from our favorite breakfast spot Huckleberry. And we took out into the back yard to enjoy a leisurely brunch in the yard.

In case you are wondering: It’s two eggs (mine over hard since I’m not supposed to have runny eggs), kale, garlic, cherry tomatoes, a little pesto and a sprinkle of bread crumbs and its mouth watering!

Even Peeps was in heaven.

Later, we laid out in the grass just to get as much of that great sunshine as possible where I started on crafting a new pair of baby booties for the little one. We managed to get some practical things done as well like laundry and dishes. And I even did a little work in the babies room.

I never felt like I was pushing myself too hard, but early that evening, after a yummy BBQ veggie burger dinner and a netflix date I found myself ready for bed at about 8:30!! I guess this whole pregnancy thing is catching up to me in the third trimester!!

As I write this (early Sunday afternoon) I already feel like taking a nap! We have a What We Do Films client meeting later with an awesome new couple whos wedding we will be shooting in a couple of weeks, maybe an afternoon sugary treat at our meet up will give me that second wind I need. hehe.

Hope you are all having a relaxing and fun weekend as well!!!
